Environmental Issues
Septic tanks, cesspits and small treatment works, because of their very nature, hold the potential to be an environmental problem. If maintained and
emptied regularly they seldom are. However, it is your responsibility to ensure your system does not leak and contaminate the surrounding land, and to
ensure the system is working correctly if final disposal is open water course. Failure to do so will potentially incur a visit from the Environment Agency
and a fine.
